The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova and the Organisation for the Development of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector (ODIMM), in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), organised on 24 February current, the workshop on the development of the Strategy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises 2012-2020 and discussions on the Small Business Act.

The aim of the event is to discuss the Strategy to support the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector for the years 2012-2020.

the workshop presented the draft – the final part of the Strategy supporting the Small Business Act and the Small Business Act.

The event was attended by representatives of the SME Development Strategy Working Group for the years 2012-2020:representatives of the Ministry of Economy, OECD, SME Sector Development Organisation, Innovation and Technology Transfer Agency, International Organisation for Migration, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, etc.

The event in question is part of the activities set out in the “Multiannual Policy Support Project for IMM in RM”. The project is fully financed by the Government of the Netherlands with a duration of 3 years, implemented by the OECD Investment Compact for South Eastern Europe, with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the Organisation for the Development of the Sector of Small and Medium Enterprises (ODIMM).

Participants to the event set out their opinion on the draft – the Strategy and came forward with proposals for its improvement.

The project targets three broad groups of beneficiaries: policy makers and government officials related to the design and implementation of policies for SMEs; representatives of the business community and partners, in particular business-associations, implementing agencies, SME experts and financial institutions; SMEs.

Currently, the sector of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises is of key importance to Moldova’s economy. SMEs play a major role in the country’s economic development, being known through their flexibility, innovation capacity and rapid response to market conditions and trends. SMEs are a motric force that generates new jobs, which in turn ensures social cohesion and economic growth. Thus, in RM SMEs account for 98 % of the number of enterprises, employing around 57 % of the total number of employees in employment, thus leaving, by combining with macroeconomic factors, space for continuous development and efficiency.


ODIMM is a public, non-commercial, non-profit institution created by Government Decision No 538 of 17 May 2007, operating in cooperation with the Ministry of the Economy of RM and other central and local authorities, business associations, business support providers and SMEs.

The mission of the IMMO is to help increase the competitiveness of the national economy by supporting the development of the entrepreneurial sector.
