The Government and the European Union provide non-repayable funding of lei 14 million for another 43 companies in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 October 2024 – the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union supports local entrepreneurs through the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship.

43 grant recipients were appointed today, amounting to approximately lei 14 million, which brings the total investment in the economy to over lei 25 million.

Out of these, 27 companies will benefit from EU funds, totalling almost lei 7 million. The government of the Republic of Moldova will financially support 16 companies with a total amount of lei 7 million.

At the announcement event of the beneficiaries Dumitru Alaiba, Vice-President and Minister for Economic Development and Digitalisation, said: “In order to build a thriving economy, it is essential that entrepreneurs benefit from favourable conditions for development. The bold reforms we have implemented so far are proof of this commitment – to create a more friendly business environment. We removed bureaucratic impediments, provided access to finance, digitalised many public services for entrepreneurs, opened new outlets.

“Support for entrepreneurship and sustainable development of SMEs is a priority in our partnership with Moldova. We are happy to see a steady increase in the number of quality funding applications for national SME programmes supported by the EU and an increase in the number of companies benefiting from these programmes. The EU will continue to support SMEs, which are a key driver for a stronger Moldovan economy. With the new Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova, more than 5.000 new businesses, including small family businesses, will be created by 2027 and a further 25.000 existing companies will benefit from support", said Adam Grodzicki, Headef-Deputy of the Cooperation Section, Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

Vadim Codreanu, Director of the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship, added: “The consistent support from the European Union and the Government of the Republic of Moldova allows our entrepreneurs access to essential financial resources for modernising processes, adopting innovative technologies and expanding productive capacities. These investments are fundamental to increasing competitiveness in the internal market and at the same time for integrating local businesses into regional and international value chains.”

Grants are distributed through a number of programmes, managed by ODA, including the female entrepreneurship support programme, the START Programme for Young, the “PARE 1+ 2” Programme, the Digital Transformation of SMEs, the greening programme for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The largest investments are allocated to industry, with around 50 % of beneficiaries coming from this industry. Another 30 % of entrepreneurs will invest in the acquisition of technical means for the development of the service sector, such as professional, scientific, technical, accommodation, catering and education activities. Around 20 % of beneficiaries are active in the agricultural sector, where they will direct funds towards repowering and greening their businesses.

Throughout the year, the Entrepreneurship Development Organisation facilitated 479 companies in accessing grants totalling more than lei 197 million. Of this amount, almost RON 143 million come from the State budget and lei 40 million were provided by the European Union through the EU SME project.

Moreover, the World Bank, via the Programme for Growth of Export and Internationalisation of the HEIC, held 18 companies with funds worth lei 6.4 million.

Moreover, under the Digital Innovation and Startup Programme, 20 companies benefited from non-repayable grants amounting to lei 8.5 million, with the financial support of Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund, in partnership with the Viitor Technology Project, funded by USAID, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
