The ODA Consultation Centre in Bălite hosted on 17.07.24 the study results presentation event “The need for digital transformation of business processes in the regions”carried out by the Association for the Development of Electronic Communications and Innovation Technologies (ACETI) in partnership with the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship. The event brought together representatives of the public and private sector, as well as digitalisation experts.

The study ran from August 2022 to April 2024 and assessed the needs and challenges of SMEs in the digitalisation process. The analysis comprised 150 small and medium-sized enterprises in various business segments financed under the Digital Transformation Programme, managed by ODA.

The results of the study show that the implementation of investment projects has led to a significant increase in operational efficiency, the integration of SMEs in international value chains and improved customer engagement and loyalty. However, certain challenges have also been identified, including resilience to change and data security.

According to the Chair, ACETI, Ion Bodrug, obstacles to digitalisation include limited financial resources, insufficient digital skills of employees and resilience to change. The study also highlighted the need to adopt digital solutions to improve operational efficiency and stimulate innovation.

Despite these challenges, the financial support accessed through the Digital Transformation Programme has contributed to the creation of more than 770 jobs, most in the fields of manufacturing, education, agriculture and health.

Director ODA, Vadim Codreanu, opened the public presentations session highlighting the importance of digital transformation for Moldovan small and medium-sized enterprises.

The digital transformation cannot be addressed just as an option. The data of this study reflect on the imperative need for Moldovan companies to invest in the digital transformation of processes. The support provided by the Moldovan government and the European Union through ODA-managed programmes aims at facilitating access to advanced technologies and preparing entrepreneurs for the challenges of the modern digital economy”, Said Vadim Codreanu.

We would point out that the study was carried out as part of the project “Digital Innovation Hub – the Optimal Form for Regional Digital Transformation”, supported by the USID and Sweden-funded Vurric Technology Project.

We recall that the Digital Transformation Programme has the objective of developing the economic capacities of companies through the integration of digital technologies. Companies can receive financial support of up to lei 500.000, with an own contribution of at least 30 % of the value of the investment project. So far, through the programme, 159 entrepreneurs have benefited from grants. These loans totalled lei 40.2 million and the total value of investments amounts to lei 70.6 million.
