ODA Credit Guarantee Fund – Example of good practice for Nepal
29 January 2025, Chisinau — The Entrepreneurship Development Organisation hosts, from 28 to 30 January 2025, a delegation consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank and the Nepal Credit Guarantee Fund. The visit takes place under the Knowledge Exchange Programme, organised with the support of the World Bank, with the objective of taking over good practices implemented by the Credit Guarantee Fund of the Republic of Moldova.
During the visit, the nepalese delegation has the opportunity to participate in detailed sessions on ODA and CBF governance structure, diversity of financial products offered, risk analysis and collaboration with partner financial institutions. Discussions will also take place on the challenges faced by SMEs in accessing finance, as well as on the solutions developed by the FGC to facilitate this process.
It should be pointed out that the Credit Guarantee Fund manages a portfolio of 1586 active guarantees totalling lei 1.1 billion. The asset guarantees in the FGC portfolio support loans with a balance of lei 2.6 billion, which represents 11.8 % of the total outstanding amount of loans granted by the banking sector to SMEs.
Moreover, the mechanisms and procedures applied by the ODA Credit Guarantee Fund are aligned with international standards and promoted by the World Bank.
As of 2022, the FGC has been a member of the European Association of Guarantee Institutions (AECM), strengthening its position in the European network of guarantee schemes. Through the experience gained under AECM, ODA continues its commitment to increase the capacity of the Fund and improve its governance.
