Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy Valeriu Lazăr and experts from the Ministry of the Economy and the World Bank met on 15 April to review the final concept of the World Bank’s Competitiveness Improvement II (Pacts) Project, with a view to launching negotiations on the project in early May.

“In the context of the rapidly evolving European agenda, CAP II must focus on concrete, proactive actions that will help develop the competitiveness of Moldovan businesses, in order to prepare them to seize the opportunities and face the transformational challenges and processes related to the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the European Union”, stressed Valeriu Lazăr.

The World Bank’s Competitiveness Improvement II project aims to increase the competitiveness of domestic enterprises, in particular SMEs, by facilitating access to medium- and long-term finance, access to new markets, improving the business regulatory framework and launching the credit line for the private sector.

Strengthening the institutional capacities of ODSMEs and MIEPO by developing strategies, services for local businesses that will boost their access to new markets and increase their competitiveness is a major objective of CAP II.

The project also sets out as priority actions to strengthen and support the capacity of Regulatory Reform, fiscal instruments and procurement capacities.

A team of experts from the Ministry of Economy and the World Bank will analyse the concept of the project discussed at the meeting in order to approve its final form and to be able to launch negotiations on it and sign it as soon as possible.
