ODSMEs, supported by the World Bank, will provide new opportunities to support small and medium-sized businesses

World Bank mission, in Chisinau on 18-27 February to continue with talkstwork with the state authorities to prepare the financing of the Project Improving Competitiveness in the Republic of Moldova (CAP II). The visit was led by Ms Melissa Rekas and Ms Uzma Khalil, team leaders.

In this context, the World Bank team, in coordination with Ms Melisa Rekas, held a series of meetings with Ms Iulia Iabanji, Director-General of ODIMM and her team, with the aim of identifying the key issues facing Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the Republic of Moldova and creating new opportunities for the development and stimulation of the SME sector.

The World Bank Working Group examined with the ODSME consultants the SME grant implementation scheme, building on the experience of the CAP I Programme. Another topic addressed was the role of ODSME in strengthening the competitiveness of domestic businesses as a facilitator and promoter of their growth and development. In this way, the World Bank will provide support for the development of an ODSME institutional development strategy to meet the needs of local businesses by developing new services and programmes.


“This is a crucial moment for the SME sector. In order to face international competition, small companies need to start from the outset with a competitive advantage and existing ones to continuously develop their capacities. With the support of the World Bank, ODSMEs will provide small entrepreneurs and potential exporters with multilateral support in the start-up process and business development, contributing to the sustainable development of the sector”stated Ms Iulia Iabanji.


We reiterate that development objective of CAP II it is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan enterprises, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises, by forging links with the sales market, facilitating access to medium- and long-term financing and improving the business environment.
