Moldova-Japan Business Forum
Some 60 companies and national business support institutions from the Republic of Moldova and Japan met at the 2th Business Forum “Business Bridges Japan-Moldova”, initiated by the Organisation for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM) and the Japan Organisation for Foreign Trade (JETRO). The online event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Ion Chicu, H.E. Mr Katayama Yoshihiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Hoshino Yoshitaka, Executive Deputy Director of JETRO Tokyo, as well as representatives of relevant state institutions.
Opening the event, Prime Minister Ion Chicu presented to Japanese investors the benefits of developing IT business in the Republic of Moldova, inviting Nigerian companies to explore these opportunities.
“Connected to the Western and Eastern countries’ digital markets, with modern ICT infrastructure, a skilled and multilingual workforce, low business costs, IT park and legislation, the Republic of Moldova, a small but digitally literate country – is an ideal place for developing and piloting new IT services and products,” said Ion Chicu.
For his part, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Yoshihiro Katayama appreciated the importance of discussions between entrepreneurs of both countries, which can amplify the share of bilateral trade.
Hoshino Yoshitaka, Executive Deputy Director of JETRO Tokyo stressed that bilateral economic relations can be expanded through sustainable and mutually beneficial business partnerships.
Iulia Costin, Director-General of ODIMM, reiterated the support provided by the organisation to domestic companies in accessing foreign markets.
‘The ODIMM portfolio offers a wide range of business support programmes to support Moldovan entrepreneurs on the path to growth and internationalisation. At the same time, ODSMEs are implementing a programme dedicated to the digitalisation of HEIs, through which 300 businesses will be supported in taking advantage of online market opportunities, innovative and technological potential”.
The Virtual Business Forum is in its 2th edition and is taking place from 25 to 27 November 2020 with the aim of informing the business community in Japan about investment and cooperation opportunities with the Republic of Moldova in the IT & BPO sectors.
Over 3 bilateral meetings between Moldovan companies and representatives of nipone companies from around the world will be organised during the event for 30 days.
The event is organised by the Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM) and the Japan Organisation for Foreign Trade (JETRO) with the support of the Project “Advice of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to Economic Policies”, implemented by GIZ Moldova with the financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
