Government approves signature of a grant agreement for energy efficiency of SMEs
29 December 2025 — The Cabinet of Ministers approved the signature of the Grant Agreement between the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to implement the project “Businesses and Puternic Commune for Moldova”.
The project is led by GIZ Moldova and co-funded by the Swiss Cooperation Office (SDC) and aims to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in reducing energy consumption, lowering operational costs and increasing long-term competitiveness in the context of current energy challenges.
Through this programme, SMEs will benefit from non-repayable financial support for investments in energy efficiency technologies, the modernisation or replacement of existing equipment, and the deployment of renewable energy solutions. The financial support will be complemented by technical assistance, including energy audits and tailored recommendations for energy efficiency.
GIZ’s grant amounts to EUR 1.85 million and the total project budget amounts to EUR 3.68 million, with the difference being provided through co-financing of entrepreneurs. At least 24 SMEs will receive a grant of up to RON 1.5 million per company.
The implementation of the project will help reduce energy consumption and emissions, increase productivity and strengthen the economic resilience of participating companies. Indirect benefits are also anticipated, such as stimulating private investment, developing the market for energy efficient technologies and reducing pressure on national energy infrastructure.
The agreement will be signed by the Director of IP ODA, Vadim Codreanu. The project implementation period is until 30 September 2026.
With this initiative, the Government reconfirms its efforts to develop a crisis-resilient economy by promoting energy efficiency and strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy.
