Government and European Union support 80 local affairs with grants totalling more than lei 22 million
3 June 2025, Chisinau 80 companies in the Republic of Moldova received grants totalling lei 22.3 million, which will generate investments in the economy of over lei 42.1 million. The funds will be used for the purchase of performing equipment and the digitalisation of processes. Finally, this financial support translates into more competitive business, better paid jobs and higher opportunities for citizens across the country.
The support comes from the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which provides lei 16.3 million to 48 companies. The European Union supports 29 companies with lei 4.9 million through the “European Union for small and medium-sized enterprises” project.
At the same time, another three companies were supported by lei 1.1 million, via the Small Producer Support Programme, part of the “EU4Moldova: Local Communities” initiative, funded by the EU and the German Government.
There are currently 375 employees working in these companies. Through grants, at least 328 new jobs will be created.
At the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Economic Development and Digitalisation, Doina NISTOR, said:
“The government is building an economic model based on added value, technology and innovation. A model where companies develop through smart investments: in performing equipment, in digitalisation, in solutions that increase productivity. And these grants are a form of partnership between the state, the European Union and the business environment, which generates tangible results, not only for companies, but for communities, employees, for the whole economy.
We will continue to be alongside those who have the courage to build and create in Moldova. Because development starts with people who choose to stay and change things well here at home”.
“In each regional visit to the country’s various raios, together with the team from the EU Delegation we are visiting SMEs benefiting from the European Union’s careers. We are pleased to see that grants are used strategically – either in greening projects or in digitalisation or upgrading of equipment, which facilitates the opening of new jobs and access to retail markets. Moreover, we welcome that many of these companies are family business. The European Union will undoubtedly continue to support small and medium-sized enterprises as they are a driving force of the national economy and an important pillar of the recently ratified Growth Plan for Moldova.”said Payment Vasiles, Trade Advisers, Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
Speaking about the course of local entrepreneurs and efforts to support them, Vadim Codreanu, Director ODA, underlined the institution’s commitment to support the transformation of courageous ideas into sustainable economic realities:
“Today we see people who choose to create in their dream, start from scratch or go further, even when they are challenges. Every project we support is courage, ownership and successful hope.
Through the inertia of programmes managed by ODA, we seek to provide not only access to finance but also trust. We are providing direction. And above all, we offer a real partnership for those who are building the country’s economic future, every day from every corner of Moldova”.
We would point out that, since the beginning of the year, 300 companies have received ODA grants totalling lei 120.8 million. This financial support will generate investments of more than lei 232 million in the Republic of Moldova’s economy.
Of these, 210 are financed from the State budget, 83 benefit from European Union financial support through the “European Union for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises” project, and four companies were financed from World Bank Group sources. Three companies are also supported by the ‘EU4Moldova: Local Communities’ programme, funded by the European Union, the governments of Germany, Austria and Poland and implemented by GIZ, ADA and SFPL in Moldova.
