From innovation to economic impact: Entrepreneur 2025 highlighted the strength of the business community in the Republic of Moldova
30 June 2025, Chisinau — The organisation for the development of entrepreneurship, in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, organised the second edition of the Entrepreneurship Day. The event was attended by more than 350 entrepreneurs, representatives of the Government, development partners, financial institutions, being a landmark for the innovative spirit and the essential contribution of entrepreneurs to the economic development of the Republic of Moldova.
Similar messages came from the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, Doina NISTOR, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, Head of Development Cooperation at the Ambassad of the Federal Republic of Germany, Verena Zell and Vadim Codreanu, Director of ODA. In their messages, dignitators underlined the strong commitment of international authorities and partners to strengthen the entrepreneurial environment in the country.
President Maia Sandu stressed:
“After many difficulties and attempts, Moldova is at the top of the largest market in the world – the European Union. The door is widely open and we are ready to live with confidence. I am promised to stay with you and that I will do everything in my power to delete the hotline between Moldova and the European Union.”
The predecessor Dorin Recean also said:
“We welcome the work and the courage of entrepreneurs to build profitable businesses at home. The Government, in turn, through the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation of the Republic of Moldova and the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship, provides concrete support tools. All we need to do is to focus on competitiveness and be ready to seize these opportunities, including access to European markets. We are trusted partners and only together we can build a modern and developed economy.”
A milestone of the day was the ceremony for designating 105 grant beneficiaries, totalling over 48.6 million lei, supported by the Moldovan government and the European Union. The financial support will generate investment of more than lei 107 million in the economy and help create more than 680 new jobs.
Of the total number of designated companies, 57 were supported by the government budget, receiving grants totalling lei 36.45 million. Another 44 companies received EU financial support worth lei 10.61 million via the “EU for SMEs” project. In addition, 4 companies were supported by lei 1.5 million under the “EU4Moldova: Local Communities” programme, funded by the European Union and the governments of Germany, Austria and Poland.
Today, the signing ceremony for the Financial Agreements of the project “Facility for the Development of SMEs of the Republic of Moldova”, Faza II of EUR 20 million, between the Republic of Moldova, represented by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation and the German Development Bank KfW, also took place.
At the event, the “Fom Impact” financial product developed for SMEs under Phase I of the Moldovan HPI Development Facility, funded by the German Government through KfW, was also launched. The product aims to facilitate access to finance for entrepreneurs developing businesses with a positive impact on the environment and society.
At the same time, ODA and UIPAC, supported by the World Bank Group and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, launched the Local Suppliers Development Programme, a technical assistance programme for 60 local companies that will receive tailor-made support in modernisation, digitalisation and integration into international value chains. The programme has a budget of EUR 700.000 and will be implemented over the next 18 months.
The final moment on the day agenda brought 30 entrepreneurs across the country, awarded for remarkable results to the six categories of nominations: excellence in innovation and digitalisation, remarkable social impact, exemplary strategic expansion, local economic development, leadership in sustainable business and courage to start.
The nomination includes companies such as ‘LANGLY SRL’, which integrated digital solutions into the textile industry, ‘MIMIMI CAKES SRL’, a workshop contributing to the social inclusion of people with special needs, or ‘SMART Hydro FARM SRL’, implementing environmentally friendly technologies in urban agriculture. Also, early road entrepreneurs, such as ‘SRL Clinical Dental Effects’, have been recognised for courage and the determination of launching business in strategic sectors.
Awarded entrepreneurs received symbolic vouchers of EUR 1000-1500, provided with the support of banking institutions and private partners, as a sign of appreciation and encouragement of performance.
Doina NISTOR, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Economic Development and digitalisation reiterated the Government’s commitment to be close to entrepreneurs: “The government, together with development partners, will continue to invest in people who change Moldova through their ideas and work. We support the creation of value-added products, innovation and courage to invest”
The excellence of Sa, Jānis Mažeiks, Ambasador of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, underlined the role of EU support for private sector development:
“SMEs are the engine of sustainable growth. The European Union will continue to support Moldovan entrepreneurs through grants, mentoring and opportunities for European collaboration.”
Vadim Codreanu, Director ODA, concluded the event with a message of gratitude and appreciation, expressing on behalf of the whole ODA team the deep admiration of entrepreneurs who transform ideas into business, create jobs and contribute to the development of Moldovan communities:
“We conclude this day with a lot of gratitude and hope. Acknowledgment for entrepreneurs who do not stop creating in Moldova’s potential and hope in the transformative strength of the private initiative.”
The Professional Day of the entrepreneur was established by Government Decision on 29 May 2024 and is marked each year on 27 June.
