“Trademarks and their registration procedure in the Republic of Moldova and in other countries” was the subject of the workshop held today by the Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM) in partnership with the State Intellectual Property Agency (AGEPI). This is the second event organised under the International Project ‘Value Intellectual Property for SMEs’.

The training was attended by entrepreneurs, business consultants, managers, who are at the early stage of business development. The purpose of the seminar was to initiate entrepreneurs on the advantages of registering the trade mark, its step-by-step registration, as well as information on national standarties.

At the beginning of the training seminar Liudmila Stihi, Head of Directorate Instruction, Analysis and Innovation at the ODIMM, stressed the importance of entrepreneurs’ knowledge of registration procedures to intellectual property workshop -1trade mark. “Competition is becoming more and more on the market and entrepreneurs at the outset make it necessary to protect products, brands and technologies, which offer a way of differentiation and protection.”

Lucia Mursa, Moldovan External Relations Manager presented the benefits of implementing national and European standards, with the intellectual property workshop noting that the implementation of standarts in entrepreneurial activity, provides access to new outlets, access to knowledge and innovative solutions, reduces production costs, contributes to more efficient production processes and improve performance.

Andrei Moisei, Coordinator specialist, Training School, AGEPI Promotion and External Relations Directorate recommended entrepreneurs at the beginning of the way to protect their products, brands and inventions. “The incentive of registration is undisputed and practice demonstrates that entrepreneurs can protect themselves from competition, creating a distinct and unique picture in the market”. It also provided examples of intellectual property and the steps that each entrepreneur will take, as well as how to use the AGEPI database individually.

Participants in the workshop appreciated the quality of the information obtained, as well as the possibility to benefit from individual consultations for their business.

Marcelina Elbujan, antreprenation: “We have recently opened a business, I will launch in spring a brand of hains from natural solvent printers to have an eco-product. I want to register the label, which is why this workshop is very welcome. Today we were able to find out more details on the registration procedure, details and useful tips that we do not find on the internet”.

Gheorghe Balance, Director of a company that has been on the market since 2009, “The news have already registered the mark Zumzet and will extend it. The registration of the trade mark has allowed us to protect us from competitors, in addition by means of the brand, customers identify the product, they find us by name”.

Alexandru Panfilii, consultant: “I welcomed today first to interact with participants and secondly to identify opportunities to increase the value of the product by registering intellectual property workshopown brand and use of national and international standards. In the area in which I are active, I cannot register the trade mark due to the general nature of the terms used. In my capacity as consultant, taking into account the ease of registration procedures, I recommend that customers protect themselves because there is a risk that someone might benefit from their image or cause damage”.

The international project ‘Value Intellectual Property for SMEs’ is carried out in consortium with 15 countries. The implementation of the project in the Republic of Moldova is carried out by AGEPI in partnership with the ODIMM. The aim of the project is to identify instruments and services to respect the principle of subsidiarity, which can be launched and promoted to support SMEs in complying with the principle of subsidiarity and understanding the values of intellectual property rights and business use of intellectual property rights at European level. Several activities for entrepreneurs in the country are expected over 2 years through this project.
