Business development in the Edinece rain: ODA and EU4Moldova Programme: Local communities provide financial support and advice
Chisinau, 28 February 2025 — Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the EU4Moldova Programme: Local communities and the Raional Edineț Council have today organised an information session dedicated to local entrepreneurs. The main purpose of the event was to present the opportunities for financial support available for business development in the region.
Held on the premises of the Raional Edineț Council, the event brought together more than 60 participants, including business representatives, local authorities and entrepreneurial finance specialists.
One of the central topics of the meeting was the presentation of the Small Producer Support Programme managed by ODA. ODA representatives detailed the eligibility criteria and application process for obtaining funding, underlining the importance of innovation, sustainable development and support for women entrepreneurs.
Zinaida Cozima, Head of the Small Producer Support Programme Implementation Unit, said:
“Small producers are the backbone of the regional economy and their support means investing directly in jobs, innovation and sustainable growth. We want to see competitive local businesses able to expand their business, create value-added products and actively contribute to community development. Through access to finance, advice and training, we are transforming good ideas into successful business.”
Lîsîi Sorin, Economic Policy Adviser in GIZ Moldova, stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships in support of local entrepreneurs:
“EU4Moldova programme: Local Communities are a joint effort of the European Union and its partners to improve the quality of life in Moldovan rural communities, providing equal opportunities for all.”
Sorocan Vitalie, Vice-President of the Edinese raion, reaffirmed local authorities’ support for economic development initiatives:
“Local authorities are committed to promoting and supporting growth-enhancing projects and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs in our region.”
The session concluded with a Q & A round, giving entrepreneurs present an opportunity to clarify issues related to the application to support programmes and to discuss the prospects for developing the business environment in Edineț.
We recall that in July 2024, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved the Small Producer Support Programme with the objective of developing entrepreneurship and increasing the competitiveness of local businesses. Officially launched in November 2024, the programme provides non-repayable funding of up to RON 500.000 to small and medium-sized enterprises, with a minimum contribution of 30 % from beneficiaries. Particular emphasis is placed on innovation, sustainability and the involvement of female entrepreneurs. In addition to the funding component, the programme includes training sessions and advice to improve business development strategies. So far, 10 companies have accessed non-repayable funds totalling lei 3.64 million, which generated an investment in the economy amounting to lei 6.25 million.
In the context, the next session will be organised in the Leova raion, aiming to support as many entrepreneurs as possible in accessing available funds and in the sustainable development of their businesses.
This event was organised with the support of the ‘EU4Moldova: Local Communities’ programme, funded by the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Austrian Cooperation for Development (DCA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland -Assistance of Poland; and implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and Solidarity Fund PL (SFPL) in Moldova.
