The Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODSME) is strengthening its role in supporting the development of entrepreneurship in the Republic of Moldova by building a competent and sustainable community of entrepreneurs. On the occasion of the record of 15 years of activity of the largest entrepreneurial support institution, grant contracts were signed today, 17 May 2022, a dialogue was held with representatives of the beneficiaries of the support programmes and an information session was organised for the business community in Cimișlia.

Thus, 38 domestic companieswith the aim of greening their businesses, they signed grant contracts with ODSMEs. Entrepreneurs will access grants of up to RON 200 thousand by the State, constituting until 70 % of the amount of the investment project, for the implementation of business greening actions. The total amount of grants provided to the 38 businesses is approximately RON 5.8 millionand the investments undertaken by the beneficiaries will be around RON 11 million.

Dumitru Pîntea, ODIMM Acting Director, stressed the opportunities opened up by green investments to businesses, which involve reducing production costs but also reducing environmental impacts.

ODSMEs help businesses adapt to the global demands and trends of the green economy. We appreciate the courage and perseverance of companies that come with new patterns of sustainable production and consumption to help make resource use more efficient, promote exports and create jobs”.

The investment projects of the 38 companies concern both the uptake of environmentally friendly practices in the areas of water resource management, responsible energy use, and raw material recovery, waste recycling and reuse. Of the total number of businesses, 24 are located in rural areas and 14 in the municipality of Chisinau. At the same time, 18 companies are active in the service sector, 13 in the industrial sector and 7 in the agri-food sector.

Among the entrepreneurs who have been accepted today for non-repayable financial support is Gheorghe Scutaru from the village of Javgur, the Cimișlia district, which has been the owner of a sale for more than 35 years. The vineyard covers an area of 87 hectares and the grapes harvested produce the most special wines, including ‘Chardonnay’, ‘Sauvignon Blanc’, ‘Muscat’, ‘Pinot Gris’ and others.

“From the ODIMM grant, we will purchase a performant treatment plant, which will help us manage water resources efficiently, through wastewater treatment, as a result of the production process for reuse and recirculation” stressed the beneficiary.

Subsequently, ODIMM organised a dialogue in the form of Roundtable between the management of the institution, the Ministry of Economy and beneficiaries of business support programmes, stakeholders and business associations.

In the discussions, the expectations and challenges of entrepreneurs during the pandemic and regional security crisis were analysed. Suggestions, recommendations, coming from HMM exhibitors, will be useful in the context of reforming the ODIMM in order to rethink, update some entrepreneurial support mechanisms and make the work of the institution more efficient.

Also today, the ODIMM team supported a Information session at the Business Incubator in Cimișlia to present the business support mechanisms in the institution’s portfolio to entrepreneurs in the South region.

The Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM), a public institution established by the Government of the Republic of Moldova on 17 May 2007, is an initiative to support Moldovan SMEs at all stages of business development by exploiting their potential to become competitive, dynamic and sustainable. ODIMM manages 12 State Business Support Programmes, most of which provide training-, finance- and mentoring in an integrated manner. For 2022, the Government of the Republic of Moldova allocated a budget of over RON 340 million to support SMEs.
