10th business Incubator launched in Calarasi
The Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM) in partnership with the Călărași Raional Council and the Ministry of Economy, with the financial support of the European Union, launched today in Călărași the 10th Business Incubator. The Călărași business incubator has a total area of approximately 2 000 m². Around 20-26 companies will be hosted here, which could create at least 60 jobs. 15 companies already have the residence status of the incubator, of which 5 will be active in manufacturing (windows and thermopan doors, forged metal garments, embroidered textiles, children’s clothes) and 10 companies provide services (accounting and business consultancy, real estate, Call – centre, design and printing, courier, cosmetology, social care).
The incubator will provide logistical, advisory, training and financial support to incubated companies and start-ups. The institution will support business development so that they can reach a level of stability and autonomy that allows them to operate effectively.
The official ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Octavian CALMÎC, Head of the Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Aneil SINGH, representatives of central and local public authorities, business community, grassroots organisations and international projects.
According to Vice Prime Minister Octavian CALMÎC, Business Incubators are a business school that must be taken up throughout the country. “In total we have 10 incubators in the network in different district centres and I think it is a good experience to multiply these practices also in the other districts and municipalities of the Republic of Moldova,” said Octavian CALMÎC.
At the official ceremony the Director General of ODSMEs, IABANJI said that Business Incubators are an effective tool to support small and medium-sized enterprises at the start-up and market penetration stage by opening up new jobs and bringing the economy to the local level. At the same time, the Director-General of ODIMM specified the following: “The establishment of this institution has been made possible thanks to the financial support provided by the EU and of course effective collaboration between central and local public authorities and international partners”.

Head of the Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Aneil Singh spoke about the importance of the Business Incubator for small companies and newly created companies. The representative of the EU Delegation stated that entrepreneurs who will become residents of the Incubator will receive training, business support and assistance. “The EU is a strong partner and provides support to SMEs for their development in Moldova. Our assistance is tangible for the business environment and this recently renovated building is waiting to welcome entrepreneurs,” Aneil Singh added.
The President of Calarasi Rayon, Sergiu Artene, noted the importance of opening the Business Incubator for the local community and for forming the economic base of Calarasi Rayon. “5 months ago this building was a building without a future, but thanks to the effort of external partners, ODIMM, central and local authorities today this centre becomes an opportunity for those who want to develop a business,” said Sergiu Artene.
Officials symbolically cut the inaugural ribbon and wrote a tree to mark the official opening of the Business Incubator in the country. Calarasi. Those present at the event were then invited to the Business Incubator’s premises to know the conditions under which residents operate.
When analysing the relevant model for the creation of the Călărași Business Incubator, the positive experience of setting up and managing Open Business Incubators in Soroca, Ștefan Vodă, Leova, Rezina, Sîngerei, Coșnița, Ceadîr-Lunga, Nisporeni, Cimișlia was taken into account, hosting 289 companies during their activity, including 144 companies successfully graduated from the incubation period. At the same time, around 950 jobs have been created through Business Incubators. This year, a Business Incubator also opens in the city of Cahul.
The opening of the Calarasi AI is in line with the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the development of the small and medium-sized enterprises sector, particularly in rural areas. Thus, in the Work Programme of the Ministry of Economy, the SME Development Strategy 2012-2020, one of the strategic priorities is the development of business support infrastructure throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including through the creation of a network of Business Incubators and the strengthening of their capacities.
